Should I wash a Daisy Girl Scout uniform first? My daughter just got her Daisy Girl Scout Smock. I need to put a couple patches on it. I wasn't sure if I should wash the smock or not.
Any advice is appreciated. |
| yes wash it so the patches stick better |
Does it matter which shoulder the sash covers on a girl scout uniform? I put my daughter's patches on so that the sash covers her left shoulder. All the pictures show the sash covering the right shoulder, but I couldn't find a specific uniform regulation on the GSA website. Please help! Thanks! |
There are specific rules where the stuff goes.
The Council ID (the two curved pieces with GSUSA on top and your council on the bottom), go on the *right* side, along with the troop numbers, troop crest (if your daughter is old enough), year pins, etc. The Girl Scouts pin and World Trefoil pin go on the left, over your heart.
I had one mom who looked at the website picture, and put everything on just as she saw it - so everything was on the wrong side. I just let it be - but once another leader wanted something done about it. I asked her if *she* was volunteering to fix it?
The iron on stuff makes it almost impossible to fix boo-boos like this, I wish they didn't make all the patches that way. |
My son hid his older sisters girl scout uniform so she had to wear her old brownie dress to her cookie meeting? He thought this was very very funny and it was embarassing for her. She was almost in tears! He has now returned the uniform. As punishment do you think it would be fair to make him accompany his sister as she sells the cookies? |
| Make him do it in the Brownie Uniform. |
Does anyone know where I can find an image of a Russian Girl Scout Uniform? I am working on a project for my Girl Scout troop and I am trying to find information on Girl Scouting in Russia. Can anyone help. I really need a picture of a uniform if anyone can help. |
Hello Molly:
I did a search of the internet, and found this site:
www.girlscout.ru/
about half way down the page is a photo of a group of women wearing their uniforms
www.girlscout.ru/images/vstre4a_s…
Try a search using your favorite search engine (mine's Goodsearch.com) and enter "Russian Federation of Girl Guides"

Where can I buy just the promise center for a Daisy Girl Scout uniform? I don't need the whole pack. ? I have 3 girls that need the centers to the petal pack but they have the petals. I don't want to have to spend 6.50 a pack just for the centers. Any one know a place you can buy them individually? Thanks. |
Nope - would be nice, wouldn't it?? And since the Promise Center is the first thing the girls earn, you're unlikely to find a Leader with leftovers (unlike the Petals, many Leaders will have some random colors left over at the end from girls who dropped out, didn't finish one, etc.). Sorry. :-(
(That said, it's just a blob - not even a perfect circle - of blue with a white border. It wouldn't be impossible to create a replica. Not exactly official, but the sort of thing one resorts to when facing the craziness of only selling insignia in complete sets.) |
Anyone know where I can find a used Brownie (Girl Scout) uniform? My daughter wants to join Brownies this year. They need to have the entire uniform and it is expensive.
Thanks! |
FYI - no Girl Scout is required to have a uniform for participating in troop activities. It is strongly recommended since Girl Scouts is a uniformed organization but no troop leader has the authority to require it. That being said, e-bay is your best bet. Don't feel pressured to buy the entire uniform either. If you decide you do want her to have it, you can just buy certain pieces. I would recommend either a vest or sash for her awards. Some other options are:
Walmart

Girl Scout Shop Online Sale Items

Girl Scouts USA recognizes that the uniforms as expensive and since its goal is to be all inclusive they do not require it. |
I accidentally burned my daughters' Girl Scout Uniform? I was trying to iron on the American Flag onto my daughter's Daisy Uniform and I ended up burning it. And the sticky stuff from the patch made the burn area all plasticky. I immediately threw it into the washer (on the Delicate cycle), nothing. My Aunt suggested for me to have a damp cloth and iron the area again so the adhesive would come onto the cloth. But it didn't work. I remember when I was in Girl Scouts, we sewed our badges on.
Please help. |
I'm not sure what has burned, the patch or the uniform or both. I will say that if it has turned plasticky and the cloth is hard, you have melted the synthetic fibers in the material and will have to toss the thing. If it has turned plasticky as in there is a shiny bit on the cloth and the cloth is still soft and bendy like cloth, instead of using a wet cloth to iron up the adhesive, try using a dry one, (the adhesive will stick to a flat, dry piece of cotton like a non terry dish cloth, better than to a wet one). If that doesn't work you could resort to a chemical such as goo-be-gone, but test it on a hidden portion of the fabric first.
My son was in the scouts for a few years and while that iron on stuff seemed nice at first after a while I just sewed those badges on. It was cheaper to sew them on too, (when shirts got too small, or worn out, I just clipped the threads and moved them onto the new shirts). Also, when you stain a shirt, never run to the wash with it first off. Putting it through the washer/dryer will set the stain. Good luck! |

I like the Full-Standard girl Scout Uniform redesigned I think the Full-Standard Girl Scout Uniform should be redesigned, because it looks better and more Scout-like for the young and older Girls, including myself. What do you think?
Cordially,
Valerie Klaassen |
There is no real full-standard uniform for Girl Scouts. For most of its history, Girl Scouts has had a distinctive uniform, with distinctive colors, for each level.
Now the new uniform standard, to be followed when representing Girl Scouts in public, is khaki bottoms and white top for Girl Scouts Junior level and above, and navy blue business attire for the adults.
It is virtually impossible to get a standard uniform that will fit all sizes and shapes of girls. We're much pickier than guys, so getting a style acceptable across the board would be almost impossible.
So I think that setting a color standard for all of us to follow is probably the best way of getting us uniform. And a way of making it affordable - the uniform components were usually priced out of my budget. |
Patches on Girl Scout Uniform? I do not sew and I would like to know what do you use to put and keep the patches on the vest/sash of a Girl Scout uniform. |
If you don't mind going to your local Boy Scout Shop, they have a new product that allows you to sort of glue the patches on with an iron. It works well and then you could just not put the article of clothing into a dryer again, just hang to dry which is better anyway, oh, and doesn't take long either.
My other suggestion is to go to a Sports Uniform store and ask for the Velcro backing for removable patches. AYSO uses them here so that you can change your patch according to what role you are playing that day and wash your shirt in the laundry still. It very cool. You would still have to have the Velcro backing sewn on first by someone, but after that, you just stick your patch on and peel off as needed.
One thing for sure, get them on quickly, they're earned and should be worn proudly! |
